Franchisee Spotlight: Leo Sayles of Miracle Method
Franchisee Spotlight: Leo Sayles of Miracle Method
Franchisee Leo Sayles turned his Miracle Method business into a family affair.

When Leo Sayles jumped into business ownership over fifteen years ago with a kitchen and bath refinishing concept, the company was named Surface Doctor. Today, Sayles still runs the successful Central Ohio franchise, but under its new name - Miracle Method.

After staying with the brand after a buy-out shortly after he opened doors, Sayles has found huge success in the booming Columbus housing market helping homeowners update their kitchens and baths affordably.

Sayles’ daughter, Mary, now oversees the day-to-day operations of the business as Miracle Method of Central Ohio continues to thrive.

What were you doing before partnering with Miracle Method?

Leo: I grew up in Strongsville, OH and moved to central Ohio after college.  Currently I live in Pleasant Township and have lived in the central Ohio area over thirty years. Before partnering with Miracle Method, I worked at Dairy Mart in Columbus as Director of Operations for 5-60 stores. I also held roles in marketing and merchandising in my career. Before Surface Doctor, I had no professional background in remodeling or refinishing.

Mary: I am Leo’s daughter and currently serve as the general manager of the franchise, overseeing the day to day operations of the business. I have grown up in the Columbus area and graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s of science degree in 1980.

How did you learn about Miracle Method, and what made you ultimately decide to commit?

I wanted to own my own business and decided to look into franchise concepts so I would have the support of an established brand. I was looking in to a furniture refinishing concept, but at the time I felt that the Columbus market was oversaturated with businesses that offered that service.

Through my research I found Surface Doctor. I felt that the demand and market were a good fit and opened my Surface Doctor in Columbus in 1999. About a year later the brand was bought out by Miracle Method and I had the opportunity to stay on with the business. I chose to stay with Miracle Method because of the even better support structure from the corporate team as well at their proprietary bonding agent and advanced technology.

What were your perceptions of franchising before starting the process?

I sought out a franchise concept when looking to open a business for the corporate support and the ability to open and grow quickly.
